Tips
To begin ~ Enjoy a large bouquet of beautiful fresh lavender picked right from our farm.
Enjoy the beauty and fragrance for approximately seven days or until you see the little blossoms stop blooming or you are ready to dry the bundle.
Keep it fresh in about one inch of water for the first day (the first day they drink the water pretty fast and may need replenished).
After that change the water daily leaving only about a half an inch, this will prevent the stems from blackening and rotting.
Just a tip - we usually put our fresh lavender in clear glass vases so that we can see if the water starts to discolor or if the stems begin to darken which will lead to rotting.
If you see this beginning to happen remove from the water, cut to desired length or just cut off the discolored stems and hang upside down out of direct sunlight to dry. We like to hang some to dry in our kitchen.
After the bundle has dried you can leave it right where it is or place it in a vase or floral arrangement to decorate any room. If kept out of direct sunlight your lavender will keep its beautiful color for a very long time.
If and when you are ready for a change, rub the dried flowers off the stems on to a sheet of paper or cloth. The florets can now be used in crafts or recipes or maybe make a beautiful sachet bag. If you plan to use the dried lavender for recipes you will need to clean it thoroughly. You can always buy culinary lavender from us.
Put it into a decorative bowl, crush and sprinkle a little on the carpet before vacuuming (your whole house will smell wonderful), put some under the cushions of your couch to add a little fragrance to the room and also kill any germs (lavender is a great disinfectant/antiseptic), sprinkle a little on your pet's bedding to help deter fleas and dispel the scent of pet odors.
It can be placed in soothing eye covers to help relieve headaches, have a little bowl in your bathroom to rub your hands in after you wash, not only does it disinfect but makes your hands smell lovely. Hang a lavender bath bag over the hot running water and you will have a relaxing natural scented bath.
